Adult Literacy Program

Enhance your career by improving your reading and spelling skills. Neuhaus Education Center offers reading and spelling classes to adults, 18 years and older, who wish to improve their reading and spelling skills.

 
Lessons are designed to teach:
  • phonemic awareness
  • the six syllable types
  • syllable division strategies
  • reliable spelling patterns
  • rules for adding affixes
  • word origins
  • strategies for learning frequently misspelled words
 
Students completing the course will:
  • have a better understanding of the English language including history, structure, and function
  • read with more fluency and comprehension
  • know how to analyze and recognize words
  • gain improved pronunciation
 
Classes, held on two weekday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., are taught by Neuhaus-trained teachers and kept small for maximum learner benefit.
Completion of the program usually requires three to four semesters. Enrollment is limited; please register early.
 
Adult Literacy Class Schedule
  • Classes meet two weekday evenings
    from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.   
  • 2012 Spring Semester
    January 23 - May 7, 2012 (no classes week of March 12-16 for spring break)
 
 Tuition and Fees
  • Initial screening: $25
    • Screening is required before class placement
    • Class placement depends on reading level and class availability
  • Tuition for the classes is $200.00 per semester*
    • A $50 non-refundable deposit is due when enrollment is made.
    • The balance of $150 is due on the first day of class.
    • Program requires a minimum of three to four semesters to complete.
