Neuhaus Education Center congratulates Brownsville Independent School District for winning the 2008 Broad Prize for Urban Education. Neuhaus has had the pleasure of collaborating with Brownsville ISD for the past eleven years. Our collaboration began with professional development for all first and second grade teachers in research-based reading instruction and continues today through support of the district’s self-sustaining professional development. The Brownsville ISD’s model demonstrates how teachers who know how to teach reading successfully will close the achievement gap among poverty and minority students.
