Free testing for learning disabilities and/or dyslexia
can be requested at the child's public school. Ask the teacher about
the procedure to follow to request testing. The request, directed to
the principal, should be in the form of a written letter which states
the educational concerns that you are currently seeing in you child. By
law, testing must be completed within 60 days after the consent for
testing has been signed by the parents. Parents should ask for a full
and complete educational battery of tests.
If
the child attends a private school, the public school to which your
child is zoned should provide testing for your child under the Child
Find Law. Call the school or school district office to see to whom you
should direct your written request for a full and complete educational
battery of tests.
If you prefer to have your child privately tested by an Educational
Diagnostician or other qualified professional, please give our office a
call at
713.664.7676
and we can refer you to a reliable testing facility in your area. If
you are a parent outside of the greater Houston area, you may want to
contact your local branch of the International Dyslexia Association
(IDA) for referrals to a testing facility - their website is

Where other than HISD can I go to get my 5 year old tested for free to see if he is indeed dyslexic? I am pretty sure he is because my 22 year old daughter had the same problems he is having now.
