In Developing Metacognitive Strategies, participants learn:

1) Activities that increase oral language;
2) Strategies for increasing vocabulary and background knowledge;
3) Summarization activities;
4) Questioning techniques; and
5) Progress monitoring for fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Developing Metacognitive Skills is an instructional framework based on the tenets of structured literacy designed to develop deep comprehension skills by guiding students to think about their thinking as they read. The DMS curriculum engages students in both the depth and breadth of language, with multiple opportunities for teacher modeling, student practice, and differentiation.
